In early July 2025, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the Faculty of Architecture of Gdańsk University of Technology hosted a delegation of academic staff from the Faculty of Urban and Regional Planning at Cairo University, visiting as part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility programme. The visit to the Faculty of Architecture was part of a long-standing collaboration initiated by Professor Piotr Lorens and Professor Khalid Zakaria Eladli Imam, and currently continued by the team of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

The week-long visit of Cairo-based urban planners—engaged both in teaching and in research on various spatial planning issues—was dedicated to the topics of port city urbanism and the revitalisation of waterfronts in historic metropolitan centres. The guests explored the historical city of Gdańsk, including the redeveloping post-shipyard areas, as well as the city centre of Gdynia.

New mural compositions have been created across two floors of the elevator shaft in the Main Building of Gdańsk University of Technology. The works were carried out by fourth-semester undergraduate students from the Faculty of Architecture as part of the elective course Art in Space, led by Professor Jan Buczkowski and Dr. Edyta Urwanowicz from the Department of Visual Arts.

The Environment – Climate & Energy path addresses issues such as: carbon footprint, circular economy, renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, climate change, blue-green infrastructure, and eco-modernization of buildings and housing estates.

Winners of the SARP competition

We are proud to announce that two staff members from the Department of Urban and Regional Design — Dr. Eng. Arch. Monika Arczyńska and Dr. Eng. Arch. Łukasz Pancewicz — together with the A2P2 architecture&planning team (in collaboration with the Warsaw-based studio mamArchitekci), have received The Association of Polish Architects (SARP) Award for the best architectural projects completed in Poland in 2024.

Perspektywy 2025 Study Program Ranking
Gdańsk University of Technology ranked 3rd among technical universities and 5th among all academic institutions in Poland in the 2025 Perspektywy University Ranking.

The Faculty of Architecture at Gdańsk University of Technology was recognized as the best in Poland in this year’s edition of the Perspektywy 2025 Study Program Ranking. Organized continuously since 2000, the ranking helps high school graduates choose their field of study and the universities where they want to continue their education.
