Doctoral thesis defence announcement

The Scientific Discipline Board of Architecture and Urban Planning at Gdańsk University of Technology are pleased to announce the public defense of the doctoral dissertation by Ms. Anna Półtorzycka, M.Sc. Eng. Arch.

The defense will take place on December 20, 2024, at 10 AM in room 311 in the Main Building. The title of the dissertation is: „Gdańsk villas. Single-family house of the upper middle class circa 1870-1939 in Gdańsk, in the light of design documents and administrative decisions”. The supervisor of the dissertation is Prof. Ph.D., D.Sc., Eng. Arch. Jakub Szczepański.

Summary of Natural Building Festival

Natural Building Festival participants
The fourth edition of the Natural Building Festival, which was patronized by the Faculty of Architecture at Gdańsk University of Technology, has already become history.

The main coordinator of the festival was Dr. Eng. Architect Bogumiła Kapica, a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture at Gdańsk University of Technology. This event is organized every two years by the Polish Association for Natural Building. After Warsaw, Łódź, and Wrocław, it was Gdańsk's turn. The event took place in the prestigious interiors of the Great Armoury from November 15 to 17, 2024, featuring lectures, workshops, and panel discussions.

The defense of Mr. MSc Eng. Arch. Adam Bladowski’s dissertation titled „Developing VR Technology Tools for Lighting Research in Architecture in Compliance With Daylight Recommendations From the Standard EN 17037” . The supervisor of the dissertation DSc. PhD Eng. Arch. Justyna Martynik-Pęczek, Prof. at Gdańsk Tech. and the co-supervisor is PhD Eng. Arch. Grzegorz Pęczek.

INTERSTUDENT 2025 – competition for the best foreign student in Poland

INTERSTUDENT 2025
This is the 15th edition of the Interstudent competition, in which we reward the best foreign students who study at Polish universities. We are looking for interesting and ambitious people, good students, but above all active and involved in the academic environment of their university. And every year, thanks to cooperation with universities, we find many excellent candidates.

We want to present foreign students who study, work socially, get involved in the life of their communities. They are an example for colleagues and ambassadors of Polish universities in their countries.

We are waiting for applications until December 12th, 2024. Then the Jury will meet and select the winners. Traditionally, we will award prizes in three basic categories: bachelor’s studies, master’s studies and doctoral studies. The Jury may also award a Special Prize for special achievements and commitment.

The competition for the Minister of Development and Technology resolved

The competition for the Minister of Development and Technology
The competition for the Minister of Development and Technology Award, announced in 2023, has been resolved. The competition concerned the best diploma theses, doctoral dissertations, and publications in the fields of architecture and construction, urban planning and spatial management, as well as housing.

Among the awarded were students and academic staff from our Faculty.

Ruins of the Bodzentyn Castle
The Diploma of the Year Award from the SARP (Polish Association of Architects) was granted to Mr. Wiktor Olszewski for his diploma thesis titled " Understanding Space, Space Understood. A Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Center Located in the Ruins of the Castle in Bodzentyn” written under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Eng. Arch. Jakub Szczepański.

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Olszewski is also a finalist in the Competition for Young Architects organized by Builder for the Future. This is the second recent recognition of our students’ work.
