Urban populations are growing rapidly and cities need to be at the forefront in addressing the accompanying health challenges. Recently COVID-19 has only added to this complex. The University of Copenhagen, School of Global Health, offers a 5 ECTS summer course on Urbanisation and Health to qualify the future workforce in all fields of urban health and planning to come up with sustainable solutions.

The course will focus on promotion of health and well-being in the urban environment across age groups and socio-economic positions. It will include modules on urban transitions, demography, blue and green infrastructure, adaptation to climate change, air and noise pollution, mobility and place-making.

The course opens with a series of online lectures and assignments developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Madrid and University of Coimbra (with a total of two weeks workload) followed by a two-week programme in Copenhagen. The latter part will include meetings with stakeholders from private and public sectors, field visits, and group work in communities on the re-design of actual public spaces. On the last day, solutions will be presented to and assessed by an examination panel of experts and community representatives.

The course will provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and competences to identify, analyse, discuss and design multi-disciplinary and research based solutions to priority urban health challenges in a local and global context.
