This workshop explores how a city can be “read” through a palimpsest-like, multi-layered lens considering its history, structure, human presence, objects, and spaces. It investigates how these dimensions interact to generate change and shape spatial-temporal relationships.
Students will develop projects that interpret a selected site through design—understood as the practice of shaping ideas and visualizing thought. The process begins with two starting points: the Letter and the Object, which act as catalysts for creating spatial - temporal narratives grounded in human experience.
A central focus of the workshop is the exchange and circulation of ideas. Elements of Arab culture: including calligraphy, metaphor, language, history, and architectural symbols will be woven into the creative process.

Additional Information

  • Participation in the workshop is free of charge. Students are responsible only for their own accommodation and travel. (Last year, this was not a challenge for participants, but it is worth highlighting.)

  • Upon return, participating students will be asked to prepare a presentation for their colleagues, sharing their experiences and key learnings.

  • All participants will receive a certificate of participation at the conclusion of the workshop.
