A tool for ECOLOGICAL RETROFITTING of the existing suburbs
About the project
The goal of the ECO-RET project is to develop an innovative tool that supports the revitalization of existing suburbs by transforming them ecologically into self-sufficient, sustainable neighborhoods with the features of a '15-minute city'. The tool, based on publicly available data and GIS analyses, allows for assessing the level of suburban urbanization, identifying areas that need intervention, and indicating specific plots that could be transformed using eco-friendly solutions. The project focuses on combining residents' living comfort with environmental care and energy efficiency. It involves a multi-criteria diagnosis of spatial, economic, and ecological problems, classifying districts based on the level of urbanization, and modeling remedial actions – including energy compensation, drawing inspiration from eco-village solutions, and strengthening local district centers. A pilot implementation of the tool is being carried out in Gdańsk and its suburban area.
The result of the project will be a universal guide for using the tool in other cities, a presentation of the results at an international GIS conference, and a publication in a reputable scientific journal.
The grant is being carried out as part of the ARGENTUM program.
