Award for Students of the Faculty of Architecture in the Young Architects Competitions | The Faculty of Architecture at the Gdańsk University of Technology

We are pleased to announce that Patryk Tkaczyk and Łukasz Tkaczyk have been awarded in the Young Architects Competitions.

The competition project focused on Djúpivogur – a site defined by the striking contrast between Iceland’s raw natural landscape and the mechanical geometry of an abandoned runway. Our students designed observational infrastructure that integrates non-invasively into the sensitive ecosystem serving as a habitat for the Arctic tern.

A key element of the concept was the analysis of environmental data and an original algorithm developed by the authors to generate a map of optimal object locations. The architectural form draws on biomimicry – inspired by the structure of a bird’s skeleton and plumage, as well as by the site’s aviation context. The entire design is based on a micropile system, minimizing interference with the natural environment.
