Mateusz Płudowski Wins the Inspireli Awards 2025 | The Faculty of Architecture at the Gdańsk University of Technology

We are pleased to announce that Mateusz Płudowski has won the Inspireli Awards 2025 in the Interior Design category. The award ceremony took place on October 6 in Prague, bringing together young designers from around the world.

The winning project – “CareWork” – was developed as an engineering thesis and responds to the growing commercialization of urban space in Sopot. Located on Grunwaldzka Street, the building aims to give the city back to its residents by creating an open space for work, care, leisure, and community integration. The project supports the local community, addressing challenges related to an aging population, a lack of public infrastructure, and the migration of young adults.

CareWork is a contemporary interpretation of Sopot’s traditional architectural forms. The building consists of four conical segments that form a sculptural composition on a human scale. The façades are made of prefabricated glued laminated timber panels styled to resemble wooden shingles, giving the structure lightness and an organic character. A transparent ground floor opens the interior to its surroundings, while greenery, materials, and surfaces create a smooth transition between the interior and the adjacent park.

The design emphasizes the use of natural, local materials and environmentally conscious solutions – including a water retention system, a rain garden, and a green corridor connecting Grunwaldzka Street with the Southern Park. CareWork embodies architecture rooted in community – a place that not only complements the urban fabric but also fosters relationships, collaboration, and everyday life among residents.
