Winners Announced for the "Architecture in Wood" and "Architect-Engineer Vision" Competitions

"Architecture in Wood" – Sylva
A competition for the best use of wood in engineering diploma projects (2024/2025) prepared in the Architecture program at the Faculty of Architecture, Gdańsk Tech.
The jury selected five laureates:

1st Prize – Maja Fetter:
"Addiction Treatment Support Center. Architecture in the Therapeutic Process"
Supervisor: Dr. hab. Eng. Arch. Robert Idem
The project was recognized for its in-depth exploration and creative continuation of local architectural features and the unique atmosphere it evokes. -
2nd Prize – Mateusz Płudowski:
"CoreWork. Community center with co-working space, Grunwaldzka, Sopot"
Supervisor: Dr. Eng. Arch. Magdalena Podwojewska
Awarded for the comprehensive and innovative use of wood in architectural solutions. -
3rd Prize – Filip Bobras:
"Physical Rehabilitation Center on the Site of a Former Gravel Pit in Gdańsk-Oliwa"
Supervisor: Dr. Eng. Arch. Jarosław Bąkowski
Recognized for its intriguing architectural form created with simple means. -
Honorable Mention I – Kacper Bernat:
"Space of Hope. Youth Support Center as a Place of Therapy, Development, and Social Integration"
Supervisor: Dr. Eng. Arch. Małgorzata Skrzypek-Łachińska
Awarded for the sculptural quality of the wooden façade. -
Honorable Mention II – Jan Mamot:
"Kyokushin Karate Dojo, Jaśkowa Dolina 41, Gdańsk"
Supervisor: MSc Eng. Arch. Paulina Duch-Żebrowska
Recognized for its simple form that clearly refers to symbolic elements.
Architect-Engineer Vision (Wizja Architekta–Inżyniera)
The goal of this student competition was to develop a concept that applies technical and technological solutions in an architectural-construction project. The design had to align with the requirements of an engineering diploma project.
The closed competition was aimed at 8th-semester undergraduate students in Architecture, who were enrolled in the Diploma Design course during the 2024/2025 academic year.

Alicja Mallach – "Support Center for Mothers and Women in Crisis – Space as a Therapeutic Element"
Supervisor: MSc Eng. Arch. Agnieszka Malinowska
Awarded for a spatial solution that harmonizes with the local landscape. The project takes into account its surroundings, emphasizing visual assets. Furthermore, the functional program aligns with the values of socially engaged architecture, with the potential to become a timeless element of urban space, fulfilling a vital social role.
2nd Prize (5,000 PLN net);

Damian Żymierczykiewicz – "Media Library with a Film Discussion Club at the Gdańsk Garnizon"
Supervisor: MSc Eng. Arch. Stanisław Dopierała
Recognized for the integration of the new design with existing buildings through functional-spatial relationships and appropriate scale and proportion. The dynamic and consciously shaped form can serve as a spatial landmark, enhancing the project’s identity and regional visibility.
1st Prize (8,000 PLN net):

Łukasz Lorek – "Hotel in Sopot. Collective Housing Facility in a Valuable Natural and Landscape Context"
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. hab. Eng. Arch. Antoni Taraszkiewicz
Awarded for a rational approach to engineering challenges and an appropriately scaled design. The compact and clearly defined structure is an example of effective spatial planning. The documentation is well-prepared for further development. The comprehensive nature and broad analysis of the project meet both the competition's expectations and those of a commercial investor.
