Official Transfer of Architectural Documentation to the Association of Polish Architects

Prof. dr hab. inż. arch. Jakub Szczepański, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and arch. Natalia Balcerzak, President of the Gdańsk Branch of the Association of Polish Architects

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Dean Prof. Jakub Szczepański, officially handed over the architectural survey of the Golden Gate to Ms. Natalia Balcerzak, Architect and President of the Gdańsk Branch of the Association of Polish Architects (SARP), on behalf of Gdańsk University of Technology and its Faculty of Architecture.

The technical documentation was prepared using advanced laser scanning technology, which enabled the creation of a precise digital model representing the current condition of the monument in the form of a point cloud. This model includes the façade, interior, and underground sections of the gate. It was developed based on 97 individual scans, with a total measurement error of only 1.5 mm, providing an exceptionally accurate depiction of the monument's present state of preservation. On this basis, technical drawings were produced, which will serve as the foundation for the renovation and restoration project of the Golden Gate façade, directly contributing to the revival of its former glory.

The survey was carried out by MSc. Eng. Arch. Szymon Kowalski and Zofia Piwońska, representing the Laboratory of Digitalization and Visualization of Architecture and the Department of History, Theory of Architecture, and Monument Conservation at the Faculty of Architecture, Gdańsk University of Technology.

As a Faculty, we are extremely proud that the scientific work conducted by our staff—using state-of-the-art equipment and advanced research methods—can meaningfully contribute both to the protection of our city's architectural heritage and to ensuring a high standard of education for our students.
