City Council Session in Gniew with the Participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture | The Faculty of Architecture at the Gdańsk University of Technology

On 28th of May 2025, at the invitation of the Mayor of Gniew, Maciej Czarnecki, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Professor Jakub Szczepański, took part in a ceremonial session of the Gniew City Council held on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of local self-government in Poland.

During the session, Professor Szczepański spoke about the ongoing collaboration between the Faculty and the Municipality of Gniew. Together with Szymon Kowalski, he presented a three-dimensional model of the town’s historic center.

The model was created using 3D printing technology, based on data obtained from photogrammetric drone surveys. The project was carried out at the Faculty of Architecture by Szymon Kowalski and Paulina Bone from the Laboratory for Digitalization and Visualization of Architecture. During fieldwork, nearly 3,000 photographs were taken using DJI Mavic 3 and DJI Mini 3 drones. Based on this data, a detailed digital 3D model was developed and later printed using FDM 3D printing technology.

The model is intended for both educational and promotional purposes and stands as an exceptional example of how modern technologies can serve the preservation and presentation of cultural heritage.
