Summary of Master Workshop: Palimpsest
The workshop was held by the Department of Education at NIAIU (Arch. Katarzyna Domagalska) in collaboration with the School of Form, SWPS University (Arch. Jola Starzak). One-week workshops program offered an in-depth exploration of the identity of the Praga district area in Warsaw. Additionally, the participants were guided by Egyptian professors of architecture and heritage conservation Heba Safey Eldeen (MIU), Alaa El-Habashi (Menoufia University), heavily involved in conserving and interpreting heritage attributes in Egypt and in the Arab World. Students analyzed various aspects of Polish heritage, both tangible and intangible, worked in exploring the heritage of a Praga neighborhood, and learning how to map stories of people, places, and architectural elements to connect historic events with contemporary cultural contexts.
Our students (Weronika Krawczyk, Małgorzata Surdy, Matylda Grad, Maja Fijałek, Anastazja Majdyło, Nadia Degutis, Julia Żyła, Martyna Sakowicz, Dawid Pawlak, and Hanna Bąkiewicz) worked alongside 15 participants (local and International) from the faculty of Design/School of Form, SWPS University and designed 5 diverse artistic interpretations revealing different key concepts and tangible results.
