Professor Gruszkowski Award
The results of the first edition of the Professor Wiesław Gruszkowski Award for outstanding achievements in urban planning were announced on August 14, 2024. This award is an initiative of the Gdańsk branch of the Polish Urbanists’ Association (TUP) and the Faculty of Architecture of the Gdańsk University of Technology.

The purpose of the award is to emphasize the importance of urban planning in shaping the human living environment and society, as well as the role urban planners play in improving the quality of Polish space and advancing urban planning. The award is based on significant achievements in the field. The patron of the award is Professor Wiesław Gruszkowski, a distinguished urban planner, architect, scholar, and educator associated with the Gdańsk University of Technology. 

Three equal awards for outstanding contributions to urban planning were granted to:

  • MSc Eng Arch. Anna Łoziak, representing the Pomorskie Regional Planning Office, for the development and implementation of the “Pomorskie Academy of Public Space Planning” concept.
  • Professor Mieczysław Kochanowski,
  • DSc Eng Arch. Danuta Kochanowska,
  • Professor Piotr Lorens, for the development concept of the Young City in Gdańsk – from the revitalization study to the first implementations.
  • DSc Eng Arch. Gabriela Rembarz, for her significant contribution to the development of the Pomorskie Metropolitan Railway project.

The competition jury consisted of four experts selected from the members or staff of the Gdańsk branch of the Polish Urbanists’ Association and the Faculty of Architectures. From the Polish Urbanists’ Association, the jury included the President of the Gdańsk Branch, Dr inż. arch. Weronika Mazurkiewicz, and the Chair of the Audit Committee, Dr inż. arch. Małgorzata Kostrzewska. From the Faculty of Architecture, the jury included the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Jakub Szczepański, and Professor Lucyna Nyka.
