Awarded doctoral dissertation by a researcher from the Gdańsk Tech’s Faculty of Architecture

dr Robert Skrzypczyński

The doctoral dissertation of Robert Skrzypczyński from Department of Urban Design and Regional Planning, titled "Self-sufficiency in basic resources as a strategy for resource management in settlements? A critical discussion and conceptual model to guide degrowth-oriented pursuits of self-sufficiency" received First Prize in the 4th edition of the scientific competition for the best dissertation related to regional studies, organized by the Polish section of the European Regional Science Association (ERSA).

The dissertation was supervised by the Gdańsk Tech Professor Izabela Mironowicz, DSc Arch., and reviewed by Professor Katharina Gugerell (Universität für Bodenkultur Vienna) as well as Professor José Miguel Fernández Güell (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid).

Currently, Robert Skrzypczyński continues his research related to the concept of degrowth and works on the problem of recognizing the needs of non-human animals in spatial planning.

If you have not heard of degrowth before, we recommend a recent presentation by Izabela Mironowicz and Robert Skrzypczyński: “Why is degrowth good for cities?”.

Both Robert Skrzypczyński and Izabela Mironowicz are members of the research group Degrowth Poland, which is part of the International Degrowth Network.

Congratulations to the laureate and his supervisor on this achievement!
