Summarizing contribution in Amman

A group of our students (urban planners) from the Department of Urban Design and Regional Planning under the coordination of doctoral student Bahaa Bou Kalfouni and with the support of Professor Karolina Krosnicka participated in the Summer School of the Union of Mediterranean Architects (UMAR) - a two-week workshop program which is also a design competition entitled “Revitalizing the Port Gaza: Water as a Catalyst” was held at the German University in Amman - Jordan in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment at the German Jordanian University.

Our students (Antoni Hope, Natalia Wolska, Pola Jopkiewicz, and Monika Myślak) and coordinator Bahaa Bou Kalfouni, worked alongside 50 other participants from different backgrounds (architects, landscape architects, and city planners), and countries such as Yemen, Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Spain, Jordan, Palestine) under the supervision of 8 mentors (Spain and Spain) Jordanian).Participants focused on developing a design and planning strategy that works to revive the Gaza port and the city. As a result of the summer school, the final presentation and open exhibition was hosted at the Jordanian Society of Architects.

The award ceremony and exhibition will take place in October 2024 at the Center for Mediterranean Architecture (CAM) in Crete, Greece, during the celebration of UMAR's 30th anniversary. We do thank the organizers for hosting our students and wish success to all participants.
