Success of the GdańskTech Team in the International Arturbain.fr 2023/24 Competition | The Faculty of Architecture at the Gdańsk University of Technology

We are thrilled to announce that the team from the Gdańsk University of Technology, comprising architect Justyna Wesołowska from the Faculty of Architecture and engineer Michał Boczoń from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, led by Dr. Eng. Arch. Izabela Burda from the Faculty of Architecture, received a prestigious award in the Arturbain.fr 2023/24 international competition.

Competition Theme

This year's competition, organized by the French institution "L'Art Urbain dans les Territoires," was dedicated to the theme "TRANSITION ÉCOLOGIQUE, NOUVEAUX USAGES: Les Territoires dans leur diversité sont porteurs de solutions" ("ECOLOGICAL TRANSITION, NEW USES: Territories in their diversity are carriers of solutions”).

Award-Winning Project

The laureates proposed the project "L'impact du passé" ("Impact of the Past"), focusing on transforming the central part of the Gdańsk district of Stogi into a vibrant place for social integration. The project, deeply rooted in the area's history, was recognized by the jury for its high architectural quality, receiving the 'MENTION QUALITÉ ARCHITECTURALE' award. The authors emphasized that the proposed changes would harmoniously blend the past with the future, enhancing residents' quality of life and considering environmental protection.

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony took place on June 24 at the Ministry of Ecological Transition in Arche de la Défense, Paris. Representatives from collaborating institutions and distinguished guests from many countries attended the event, highlighting the competition's prestige. The laureates had the opportunity to present their projects to an international audience, promoting the Gdańsk University of Technology.

This year, four projects from the Gdańsk University of Technology made it to the finals:

• "Les rues sont faites pour marcher" - Sara Kłosowska, Kinga Makowska, Aleksandra Bonk, under the supervision of Dr. Eng. Arch. Izabela Burda.
• "La biodiversité au centre de l'attention" - Natalia Turska, Blanka Zielińska, under the supervision of Dr. Eng. Arch. Izabela Burda.
• "Sept heures dix" - Anna Czepil, Aleksandra Pikur, Wiktoria Przedpelska, under the supervision of Dr. Hab. Eng. Arch. Dorota Wojtowicz-Jankowska.

The recognition in the Arturbain.fr competition is a testament to the exceptional quality of our students' and teachers' work in architecture and their international acclaim. Since 2006, thanks to the initiative of architect Janusz Gujski, teams from the Gdańsk University of Technology have regularly participated in this prestigious international competition.

Participation in the competition provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills, establish connections with peers from other countries, and gain valuable experience. This recognition highlights the high standards of the Gdańsk University of Technology and motivates further work on innovative projects that address contemporary architectural and urban challenges.
