Dominika Krechowicz Awarded Title of Professor of Art
On June 27, 2024, Dominika Krechowicz was awarded the title of Professor of Art in the discipline of Fine Arts and Art Conservation. This well-deserved recognition is the result of her many years of work and dedication to the development of art.
Dominika Krechowicz graduated from the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Arts at the PWSSP in Gdańsk, where she obtained her diploma in the studio of Professor Kazimierz Ostrowski in 1988. Since 1996, she has been working in the Department of Visual Arts at the Faculty of Architecture at Gdańsk University of Technology, currently holding the position of university professor. From 1995 to 2003, she co-founded the Koło gallery in Gdańsk.
Her work includes both paintings, such as "Flags" and "Alliance of Signs," and photographs, including "Plots," "Double Time," and "Blue of Szadółki." Professor Dominika Krechowicz has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Poland and abroad, gaining recognition and numerous awards. In 1997, she received a bronze medal in the National Painting Competition "Bielska Jesień 1997." In 1999, she took part in the international project "Interim" at Schloss Plüschow in Germany. She also received the Pomeranian Voivodeship Marshal's Scholarship in 2002 and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Scholarship in 2006 for the painting series "Flags." In 2014 and 2021, she was awarded the Gdańsk Mayor's Award in the Field of Culture, with the most recent award being related to the 25th anniversary of the Koło gallery.
The paintings from the "Alliance of Signs" series are a kind of painterly notebook, where the title reflects the mutual interdependence of the elements of the painting, creating a type of coexistence. The themes of her work include signs, space, and movement. Dominika Krechowicz uses the memory of objects and phenomena, as well as the painterly gesture, to create multi-threaded compositions. The search for a specific form through the use of a painterly gesture is preserved by the brushstroke. Some shapes are clearly defined, while others remain subtly outlined, hidden under a transparent layer of paint.
"I use the arsenal of the memory of objects and phenomena and the painterly gesture. The concept of a painting composed of many parts allows for the creation of mutual relationships. The search for a specific form through the use of a gesture is preserved by the brushstroke," says Dominika Krechowicz.
We sincerely congratulate Professor Dominika Krechowicz on this prestigious title and wish her continued success in her artistic endeavors.
