Student from the Faculty of the Architecture awarded in two competitions

Salt graduation tower K. Krużycka

Ms. Karolina Krużycka, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at Gdańsk University of Technology, has won second place in the Builder for the Future competition, organized by the educational program "Builder." The competition aims to support young architects and engineers through inspiring challenges related to the development of modern architecture and construction. This year's task, titled "Young Architect's Challenge," required participants to develop innovative architectural solutions.

Additionally, Ms. Karolina was recognized in the Zbigniew Zawistowski SARP Best Diploma of the Year competition, organized by the Association of Polish Architects (SARP). This annual competition awards the best diploma theses from architecture faculties across Poland, promoting innovative and inspiring projects by young architects.

The main goal of the project is to use the local identity of Kołobrzeg to counteract population decline and to create a sense of connection among residents with the seaside town. The project aims to provide a space that combines tourism and social functions. The diploma thesis focuses on the concept of designing a modern graduation tower as a symbolic place that not only commemorates Kołobrzeg's rich salt heritage but also promotes this identity in an innovative way.

The project's core idea is to create a symbolic space and connection between the local community and tourists. It aims to encourage visitors to spend time in a calm, reflective, and authentic manner. This space is intended to provide an alternative to mass tourism, promoting more sustainable ways of travelling. It encourages interactions with local residents, an understanding of their culture and heritage and support for local initiatives such as regional cuisine and products.

Furthermore, the project has an educational aspect. Through various educational activities, interactive elements, and workshops, it seeks to raise social awareness—especially among younger generations—about the city's salt history and its significance for cultural heritage. Utilizing traditional architectural forms in modern buildings connects the architecture with a tradition so people can more easily identify with it.

Ms. Karolina’s thesis attempts to create a contemporary salt graduation tower immersed in tradition, reinterpreted in a modern context with accompanying programs.

Her mentor for this project is Ph.D., D.Sc. Eng. Arch. Agnieszka Błażko, Professor at Gdańsk University of Technology.

We would like to congratulate Ms. Karolina and wish her further success.
