Initial stage of acquiring professional design skills. The aim is to develop individual sensitivity in shaping the spatial form. The designed objects with a simple structure are subject to group and individual assessment. The acquired skills are the basis for designing more advanced forms in later semesters.

Architectural design I

The first of the two-semester introductory course in Architectural Design. The course is the basis for further architectural education at the faculty. The course program focuses on developing basic skills in architectural design: observing space, shaping architectural composition and developing and implementing a design idea.

Scope of classes:

Basics of building architectural models
Design drawing and design board
Methods of presenting architectural designs
Two-dimensional compositions of abstract concepts
Three-dimensional compositions of abstract concepts

The subject is carried out in a workshop formula - students work together and discuss the developed projects.

Architectural design II

Second semester of the two-semester Introductory Course in Architectural Design. The course is the basis for further architectural education at the faculty. The course program focuses on the development of basic skills in architectural design: designing small architectural objects such as a holiday home, gallery, small square. During the course, students acquire the ability to transfer complex concepts into the language of simple artistic and architectural forms.

Scope of classes:

Simple object design together with a functional program
Design of a small shelter for a fictional character

The subject is carried out in a workshop formula - students work together and discuss the developed projects.

Architectural design III

The aim of the course is to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the student to develop a conceptual design of a single-family house. During the course, students work on their projects in existing locations under the supervision of the instructors. The students' task is to develop a functional program and a conceptual design for a single-family house that is part of a larger city space. Each student designs on his plot. The design plots are adjacent to each other in such a way that students are forced to jointly negotiate design solutions in order to develop a joint design of a single-family housing estate.

Scope of classes:

Programming the user's needs as the basis of the functional layout of the house

Analysis of the area and its importance in the design process,

Landscaping around the house

The subject is carried out in a workshop formula - students work together and discuss the developed projects.

Architectural design IV

The aim of the course is to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the student to develop a conceptual design of a residential building or a quarter of residential buildings. During the course, students work on their projects in existing locations under the supervision of the instructors. The task of students is to develop a functional program and a conceptual design of a multi-family residential building that is part of a larger city space. Students work on real city plots. Students learn to respect local spatial, environmental and cultural conditions at the same time.

Scope of classes:

Programming of a housing facility
Urban analysis and its role in the design process
The role of the car in residential spaces - challenges, solutions
A local street, street furniture, play spaces and their importance for a housing estate

The subject is carried out in a workshop formula - students work together and discuss the developed projects.

Architectural design V

The aim of the course is to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to develop a conceptual design of a public or commercial building. During the classes, students work in real locations on projects and develop their own design proposals under the supervision of the instructors. The task of students is to create a functional program and conceptual design of a public building with particular emphasis on its urban and cultural surroundings. Students are encouraged to implement proposals for artistic interventions, media solutions, or landscape installations as an integral part of the architectural space in their projects.

Scope of classes:

Programming of public utility buildings, functional needs of users
Spatial, social and economic conditions of public utility architecture
The role of public spaces in creating attractive and vibrant urban areas

The subject is carried out in a workshop formula - students work together and discuss the developed projects.
